Meeting "Science of St. Petersburg"

At the meeting you will hear three popular science lectures:

Natalia Katolikova, a junior researcher at the Laboratory of Neurobiology and Molecular Pharmacology at the Institute of Translational Biomedicine of St. Petersburg State University, will explain whether it is possible to grow neurons in artificial conditions, why it is necessary and how it is applicable. He will also tell you what stem cells are, how they work with them, what can be obtained from them and what experimental approaches exist to the treatment of Parkinson's disease.

Mikhail Kurushkin, Candidate of Chemical Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Biotechnology at ITMO University, will talk about the project "Internet of bacteria" (its purpose is to collect data on bacteria–producers of electricity, as well as on the soils in which they live). And he will describe how schoolchildren will participate in it and what results scientists expect from him.

Margarita Tyupina, a researcher at the Laboratory of Theoretical Chemistry of the V. G. Khlopin Radium Institute, will tell you what radiopharmaceuticals are and how they help in cases where conventional medicine is powerless. He will also explain what a PET center is and how it works.

The meeting will take place on February 16 at the cafe "Books and Coffee", St. Petersburg, Gagarinskaya str., house 20.
