Nano-Viagra Cream: faster, higher, stronger!

Viagra will be produced in the form of a cream with nanoparticlesCopper news
American scientists have developed a cream for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

Its active ingredient belongs to the same group of drugs as Viagra, but topical use should reduce the risk of systemic side effects, writes the BBC.

Drugs from the group of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE-5) – sildenafil (Viagra), vardenafil (Levitra) and tadalafil (Cialis) – are currently the most effective in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. However, when they are used, some men experience side effects such as headache, upset stomach and visual disturbances. In addition, PDE-5 inhibitors are contraindicated in people with severe diseases of the cardiovascular system.

Researchers from Yeshiva University in New York packed the medicine into nanoparticles that easily penetrate the skin and made a cream based on them. The composition of the experimental drug included tadalafil, sialorphine (a new drug for impotence) and nitric oxide, necessary for filling the cavernous bodies with blood.

A small pilot study of the drug was conducted on 18 rats with genetically determined erectile dysfunction. 11 of them who received the experimental drug showed a clear improvement; the condition of the remaining seven who received empty nanoparticles did not change.

According to one of the researchers Kelvin Davies, the effect of applying the cream occurred within a few minutes, which corresponds to the needs of people with erectile dysfunction. The effect of similar drugs in tablets begins only after 30-60 minutes.

To bring a new cream to the market, it is necessary to test its effectiveness and safety in larger–scale experiments on animals, and subsequently on volunteers. Therefore, it may appear in pharmacies no earlier than in a few years.
