Nanobioinfocognotechnologists will be taught in the Chicken Coop

Russia is the first in the world to start university training of nanotechnology scientistsThe acceptance of documents for the world's first university course for the training of nanotechnologists begins in Moscow.

This was announced today at a press conference in ITAR-TASS by the director of the Russian Scientific Center "Kurchatov Institute" and dean of the world's first "nanobioinfokognofakultet" (NBIK) Mikhail Kovalchuk.

According to him, interdisciplinary "scientists of the future" will be trained by the newly created NBIK Faculty of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology together with the Kurchatov Institute. The faculty has five departments: physics, Mathematics, NBIK, computer science and humanities. Currently, documents are being accepted for the first course, for which there are 45 budget places. "Our task is to educate interdisciplinary scientists of the future who possess nano-, bio-, information technologies and cognitive sciences - the sciences of consciousness," Pavel Kashkarov, First Deputy Dean of the faculty, told ITAR–TASS. Practical classes will be held at the Center of nano-, bio-, info-, cogno-technologies of the Kurchatov Institute.

"A fundamentally different approach is needed to education in the field of new technologies," Kovalchuk is convinced. – Until today, highly specialized education has been in demand, and for the development of new technologies, specialists trained in the interdisciplinary field who understand a variety of fields of science are needed." Until now, only postgraduate training in the field of new technologies has been conducted in Russia – at the Department of Physics of Nanosystems of Moscow State University, which is also headed by Kovalchuk. He noted that "the first nanotechnology scientist can be considered a nuclear physicist Kurchatov."

NBIK technologies is based on the principle of combining technological capabilities with knowledge of wildlife. "The NBIK Technologies product will increase the share of science in the final product to 70%," the Kurchatov Institute RSC said.

In mid-2007, the Kurchatov Institute became the main scientific organization for the implementation of the federal target program "Development of Nanoindustry Infrastructure". Through the implementation of this program, research infrastructure, training institutes in this area are being created, all information exchange opportunities are being used, and "collective use centers" are being developed.
