Russian scientists have printed 12 organs in space

Russian scientists managed to print 12 organs in space, cuvettes with samples have already been delivered to a laboratory on Earth, the press service of the Invitro company (owns the 3D Bioprinting Solutions laboratory, which conducted the experiment in space) told RIA Novosti.

The organ printing experiment started on the International Space Station on December 4 at 17.00 Moscow Time. Cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko, with the help of the Russian bioprinter "Organaut", then printed the first organ.

"We managed to print 12 organs in space, samples are already in the laboratory," the company said. They clarified that six human cartilages and six mouse thyroid glands were printed.

"Histological studies are to be carried out, the results will be made public in early 2019," the press service noted.
