The First International Forum on Nanotechnology opened today at the Expocenter on Krasnaya Presnya. The Forum was organized by the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation (RUSNANO).
The Forum, which will last until December 5, 2008, will be attended by more than 3,000 people from 33 countries. Among them are scientists, businessmen and representatives of state authorities.
The International Forum on Nanotechnology is one of the first steps to create a global platform in Russia where representatives of science and business will be able to discuss practical issues of the development of nanotechnology, which is one of the leading directions of the transition of the country's economy to an innovative path of development.
The business part of the Forum discusses a wide range of topics: from foreign experience in the formation of national innovation systems to measures designed to stimulate the development of financial, industrial, technological, information and educational infrastructure, support for fundamental science, improvement of the regulatory framework.
Special attention is paid to the prospects of using nanotechnology in various sectors of the economy: from electronics, medicine and biotechnology to mechanical engineering, oil and gas and chemical industries, as well as regional programs for their development in Russia.
The scientific and technological program of the Forum includes 29 meetings of scientific and technological sections, at which 263 reports and presentations will be made. The sections cover 18 main directions of nanotechnology development and the creation of nanomaterials.
More than 300 projects of young Russian scientists in the nanosphere were presented at the Forum. The authors of the 50 best papers will become laureates of the prize for young researchers, which is planned to be awarded annually.
At the same time as the Forum, an exhibition is running on the territory of the Expocenter, which demonstrates advanced developments in the field of nanotechnology. The exhibition will feature projects of 80 companies and organizations from Russia, Austria, Germany, Latvia, USA, Finland.
