Russian advanced therapy drugs

A new department of advanced research has started working in St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, the opening of a research complex for the development of innovative drugs of advanced therapy (LPT) – the department of advanced research on the basis of the BIOCAD laboratory. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Health of Russia.

"All the most pioneering areas of modern pharmaceuticals that allow us to move to personalized pharmacogenetics, to targeted delivery of medicines without affecting the entire body – all this has already become a reality. And the BIOCAD laboratory is one of the most advanced in our country in this regard," Head of the department Veronika Skvortsova said at the opening ceremony.

According to him, the laboratory occupies a leading position in Russia in the development and production of medicines for the treatment of the most complex diseases. "The company's research center is one of the most powerful in the country, including due to its human resources potential. The first two innovative drugs developed by the biotech company BIOCAD for oncological and autoimmune diseases are already at the stage of registration and clinical trials," the minister said.

The main task of the Advanced Research Department is the development of innovative medicines for advanced therapy. In preclinical and clinical studies, drugs of this group have already shown high efficacy and prolonged therapeutic effect. There are only 13 drugs of this class in the world today.

The LPT group includes two types of drugs: the first are based on the conscious manipulation of human genes, the second – on the modification of living cells, up to the creation of properties not inherent in nature. Today, in the scientific world community, the popularity of LPT is growing very rapidly. Over the past year alone, the number of clinical trials of drugs based on CAR-T cell therapy has increased 4-fold.
