According to an analysis conducted by Chicago researchers, people are significantly more likely to die on their own birthday than on other days of the year. The results of the work are published in the journal Social Science & Medicine (Pablo A. Pena, A not so happy day after all: Excess death rates on birthdays in the U.S.).

A study of the death data of 25 million people over the age of 14 found that 73,266 people died on their birthday, which is almost 7 percent more likely to die on any other day. According to the authors of the study, this is due to the fact that on their birthday people tend to change their normal routine and behave differently.

So, it is recorded that on birthdays there is an increased number of accidents during birthday parties, and suicides. Alcohol and substance abuse mainly leads to accidents, and depression leads to suicides.
