Novosibirsk scientists together with NSU students will develop cell lines on which they will be able to test new drugs, and in the future artificial cells (it should be read "cells with an edited genome – VM) will be used to treat diseases, Dmitry Zharkov, scientific director of the strategic academic unit "Synthetic Biology", said at a press conference on Tuesday.

The scientist plans that within two years they will synthesize cellular models of diseases on which drugs can be tested. There is such an agreement with the pharmaceutical cluster "Severny" at MIPT.

"Now we are working with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, with some types of spinal atrophy, with Parkinson's disease, cardiovascular diseases will be in the next line," he said Sibnet.ru a scientist.

The next stage will be the creation of cells that can be used to test not drugs, but other compounds, for example, cosmetics. The cell cultures that are used today are resistant to poisons, and this is their disadvantage. Novosibirsk researchers are going to make cells that reflect human characteristics as much as possible.

"A somewhat more distant prospect is the use of alternative cells for the treatment of human diseases. This is a global trend – in 20-30 years, in order to treat hereditary diseases, a person will take his cells, edit them and return them back," Zharkov said.
