AstraZeneca resumes vaccine trials

News

The pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, which together with Oxford University is developing a vaccine against coronavirus, has resumed its trials, previously suspended due to the illness of one of the volunteers. This was announced by the company's press service on Saturday, September 12.

The tests were resumed after receiving confirmation of their safety from the regulator — the Office for the Control of Medicines and Medical Devices (MHRA), the report says. Detailed medical information about the condition of the patient cannot be disclosed, AstraZeneca reported.

On September 10, it was reported that an independent commission would evaluate the undesirable reaction of one of the volunteers to the vaccine and the test would take from one week to three months. Immediately after the conclusion, the work will continue.

Oxford University noted that the suspension of testing is a routine procedure.

The vaccine in August moved to the third phase of trials in the United States. Earlier, AstraZeneca tests began in the UK, Brazil and South Africa.
