The oldest inhabitant of the Earth has died

The oldest person in the world, American Edna Parker, died on Wednesday at the age of 115 in a nursing home in Indiana.

The great-nephew of the centenarian informed Stephen Coles, an employee of the American Center for Gerontology, about her death, who created and maintains a data bank of the inhabitants of the Earth who have crossed the centennial milestone.

In her youth, Edna Parker was a schoolteacher, in 1913 she married a farmer. She was widowed in 1939 and lived in her and her husband's rural house until the age of one hundred. She is survived by her two sons.

Edna Parker led an active lifestyle, never smoked or drank.

She held the title of the oldest inhabitant of the Earth for a little less than a year. Her predecessor, Ukrainian Grigory Nestor, died in the Lviv region last December at the age of 116.

Now, according to the American Center for Gerontology, Maria de Jesus from Portugal has become the oldest person. She was born in 1893, and is only a few months younger than Edna Parker.
