The pharmaceutical cluster is not rubber!

Smolny intends to develop a research part for a pharmaceutical cluster in St. Petersburg
IA REGNUM-Baltic85-90% of the pharmaceutical cluster production projects that are planned to be developed in St. Petersburg will be attracted to the city in 2011-2012.

This was reported to the correspondent of IA REGNUM yesterday, March 15, by Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade of the Administration of St. Petersburg Zakhar Golant.

The official did not name a specific number of companies, but stressed that in any case their number would be finite.

"It is planned that those plants that will be built in St. Petersburg will also be customers of research in the field of pharmaceuticals. We focus not so much on the manufacturing sector as on the development of the research part in St. Petersburg," Zakhar Golant said. According to him, the development of research and training of specialists for this will become a significant part of the economy. So, today negotiations are underway on cooperation in the educational sphere and on the development of contract production with international pharmaceutical companies Merk, AstraZeneca and others.

As reported by IA REGNUM earlier, in December 2010, the administration of St. Petersburg signed memorandums of intent to build enterprises and open their production facilities here with four pharmaceutical companies - the Novartis group of companies, JSC Pharmasynthesis, CJSC Vertex, CJSC Immuno–Hem. All of them will build their enterprises in the Novo-Orlovskoye special economic zone on preferential terms provided by the administration. The total amount of funds that will be invested by investors in the development of these projects in St. Petersburg is about $ 1 billion.

Now the companies are conducting survey work and design, and by the summer they should all enter the stage of enterprise construction.
