The Rosnanomedicine Project

Today, on July 10, Leonid Melamed, CEO of Rosnanotech Group, and Mikhail Davydov, President of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, signed a Cooperation agreement.

The parties will join efforts to organize the practical use of nanotechnology in medicine – to create new medicines, methods of treatment and prevention of diseases. In particular, Rosnanotech Group and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences plan to cooperate in conducting research and development in healthcare based on nanotechnology and their commercialization. The cooperation will also concern the provision of infrastructure for such developments: modernization of experimental and production bases, provision of conditions for the preservation of scientific schools and attracting young specialists to work in the field of nanotechnology, as well as international cooperation.

The parties agreed to jointly consider the problems arising in the field of the use of nanotechnology in medicine, to make coordinated decisions on them and, if necessary, to send their proposals to the executive authorities and the Government of the Russian Federation, including those concerning the legal side of issues.

In addition, the corporation and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences will provide each other with methodological and scientific and technical support in the issues of substantiating the safety of "nanoprojects" and in the evaluation of scientific works.

The agreement will be valid for three years with the possibility of automatic renewal for the next three years.

– Medical projects in the corporation are highlighted as the highest priority, because their implementation can help people – diagnose and treat diseases, relieve pain, prolong life, – Leonid Melamed said. – There are already projects in the field of medicine, the implementation of which will allow us to find a cardinal solution for the cure of many diseases. Today, the corporation is considering about 40 projects in the field of medicine, two projects will soon be submitted for consideration by the scientific and technical council.
