The secret of Don Juan: females like the smell of success in love

Canadian scientists from McMaster University, working under the guidance of Dr. Bennett Galef, placed two male rats, one of which had recently copulated with a female, behind mesh fences on both sides of the enclosure. Several female rats were placed in turn in the center of the enclosure. All normal females approached the recently copulated male and lingered around him. At the same time, females with impaired sense of smell expressed the same interest in both males.

The results of the study confirm the principle: "success breeds success." According to the authors, it is unlikely that there is any signal designed to scare off females, so they are more attracted to the scent of a sexually active male than repelled by the smell of a hungry loser.
