Too much fat is bad for memory

Age-related memory impairment is an important problem worldwide, especially in industrialized countries. Perhaps one of the reasons for this is the excessive consumption of saturated fats and cholesterol.

As a result of joint work, scientists from the Medical University of South Carolina and Arizona State University found that the content of the feed rich in omega and saturated fats contributes to the deterioration of rodent memory. This effect is due to inflammation developing in the brain tissues, as well as damage to structural proteins necessary for the normal functioning of nerve cells. The authors believe that inflammatory processes associated with the quality of the diet can negatively affect the functioning of other important organs, including the eyes and ears.

Assuming that the revealed relationship extends to humans, the results of this work are another argument in favor of limiting the use of cholesterol and saturated fats.
