In the Rostov oncology center a man had a tumor removed with the help of a robot

Oncourologists of the National Medical Research Center of Oncology performed robotic surgery on a pensioner from Luhansk. The 65-year-old man was diagnosed with second-stage prostate cancer at the local polyclinic.

The patient turned to the Research Center for Oncology of the Ministry of Health of Russia for high-tech medical assistance. Here the whole range of possible methods of prostate cancer treatment is applied.

According to the General Director of the NMIC Oncology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Oleg Kit, in the early stages of the disease, it is possible to use a radiation method - brachytherapy, as well as robotic or laparoscopic surgery.

"Taking into account the volume of the malignant process, the patient's age and comorbidities, the patient was shown robotic intervention," he explained.

In the last year, robot-assisted surgery has been actively used in the oncology center for the treatment of various malignant neoplasms. This became possible after the acquisition of the latest generation robot-surgeon within the framework of the national project "Health Care". Now such operations are performed for lung diseases, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system and female genitalia.

- High-definition visualization, high precision and volume of robot movements improve the quality of surgical treatment. When performing robotic surgeries for prostate cancer, we can apply more sophisticated methods of pelvic tissue correction. The patient recovers faster, urinary retention and erectile function are preserved," said Professor Alexey Shevchenko, Head of the Oncourology Department of the Oncology Center.

The very next day after the operation the patient was able to sit and move around the ward. His health is good, he is preparing for discharge. The high-tech treatment was performed within the framework of the programs of state guarantees of free medical care for Russian citizens.
