The incidence of COVID-19 in Russia rose by 20.1% over the week

Russia is experiencing a surge in the incidence of coronavirus infection. The number of hospitalizations increased by 14.3% compared to the previous week.

From October 16 to 22, 3172 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Russia. The number of hospitalizations increased by 14.3% compared to the previous week, the operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus infection reported. 

The increase in the number of hospitalizations was noted in 51 regions. In 24 subjects, the increase exceeded the national average.

The incidence rate of new coronavirus infection per 100,000 population increased by 20.1% compared to the previous week and amounted to 14.08. The increase was observed in 72 subjects.

50 Russians died from COVID-19 in the past week. Recovered 15,722 people, 0.9% less compared to the previous week.

The day before, the head of the Gamaleya Center, Alexander Gintsburg, said that the Sputnik V vaccine stopped protecting against COVID-19 from January 2023. This happened after the spread of a variant of the Kraken coronavirus.
