Forum Press Center

On October 30, as part of the third day of the Forum and Technology Show "Open Innovations" 2015, dedicated to health and quality of life, a panel discussion "The global health industry. How can Russia stay in the global innovation market?". Representatives of government authorities, the scientific community and business took part in the discussion. The discussion was moderated by the Advisor to the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Igor Lanskoy.

"Medicine is a field that looks to the future, while relying on traditions, and biomedicine is a promising area that opens up new opportunities and improves the quality of human life," said Igor Kagramanyan, Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, speaking at the opening of the discussion. Taking this into account, the Deputy Minister noted, it is important not to talk about maintaining positions in the global innovation market, but about Russia's promotion to leadership positions in the field of medicine.

The center of the discussion was the public analytical report "Biomedicine", presented by Sergey Rumyantsev, Director of the Department of Innovative Development and Scientific Design of the Ministry of Health of Russia. The report examined the current challenges of healthcare in general, reflected the main trends and directions of biomedicine development, formulated the problems and challenges facing the state, the scientific community and business in the field of biomedicine. That is why it is so important, Alexey Repik, Chairman of the Board of Directors of R-PHARM CJSC, noted in his speech that all interested parties – the state, the scientific community and business - take part in the discussion: "We must not remain in the global innovation market, we must define it."

During the discussion, three problematic points of biomedicine and the healthcare sector in general were noted – infrastructure, personnel and regulatory support. According to Leonid Melamed, the founding partner of RMI Partners, solving these problems is not enough to orient oneself and use international experience - it is necessary to become better in all the elements that form medicine and biotechnology: the tax system, regulatory standards, scientists, infrastructure should become the best in the world.

One of the tools for infrastructure development and consolidation of scientists of various fields and manufacturers should be the medical clusters being created in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the rector of the Pirogov Russian Research Institute Sergey Lukyanov and the director of the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the Almazov Center Mikhail Galagudza told about the prospects of their work. Andrey Ivashchenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the HimRar High Technology Center, and Alexander Shuster, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Generium CJSC, member of the Board of Directors of Pharmstandard OJSC, also spoke about their vision of solving the problems of biomedicine in Russia.

Summing up the session, the participants noted the importance of holding discussions in such a format, since only the participation of all interested parties will allow Russia to consolidate its leading positions in the international market of medicine and biotechnology.
