Pharmaceutical company invites you to work

Marketers are in demand by the pharmaceutical businessAccording to a study conducted by the international recruitment company Morgan Hunt Selection, today the pharmaceutical industry is on the rise and is in need of marketers.

According to the company's press service, the pharmaceutical industry is one of the few growing during the crisis, and offers employment opportunities for marketing specialists who have suffered greatly from the cuts. The demand for marketers is caused by the restructuring of companies, the division into business units, as well as the growth and expansion of the business.

"In general, there were no global reductions in the industry. The cuts mainly affected Russian companies, and although many representatives of this business have state support, it is more difficult for them than for foreign companies, in which there were practically no cuts: the top ten Western players in the Russian market feel stable," says Natalia Shkulova, senior consultant at the pharmaceutical practice.

10% of Russian companies are characterized by the transition of shareholders to operational management, which led to the reduction of top managers, while in Western companies there are many vacancies for leadership positions.

At the same time, experts expect targeted staff reductions of 0.1-0.7% in large Western companies caused by the revision of the organizational structure and the consolidation of the functions of individual employees. "The pharmaceutical market is globalizing: large players are buying up their competitors or smaller ones, especially biotech companies and laboratories, and thus expanding, but at the same time they are forced to part with people in "doubled" positions," explains Natalia Shkulova.

(According to a study by Morgan Hunt Selection, 72 pharmaceutical market companies were interviewed in April 2009.)

3 Customer Service Manager
4  Regional Sales Manager
5  Medical representative

Currently, recruitment is mainly conducted by Western companies, especially the need for personnel is experienced by fast-growing and promising areas, such as biotechnology and the generic market. Marketers, sellers and registrars of new drugs are required there.

80% of the companies in the market continue to recruit. On average, at least 1-2 vacancies are open in each company. The ratio of vacancies to resumes is 1/30. The largest number of resumes falls on marketers and sales managers. At the same time, about 50% of applicants are looking for a job even before they leave their previous place. In general, the pharmaceutical market in its processes resembles the pre-crisis one.

The level of salaries in the industry has undergone minor changes: for average management, the drop was no more than 5-7%, and for senior management – 5-20%, which, compared with other industries in the crisis, is very good indicators. However, due to the fact that only 30% of companies have indexed salaries in rubles, the level of compensation in these companies has decreased.

According to the study, the salary expectations of candidates are not growing, the only exceptions are those applicants who work and consider a job change as an opportunity to improve something, including salary. For example, a product manager in a Russian company can expect a monthly compensation of 80,000-100,000 rubles. gross, and in the west – from 100,000 to 130,000 rubles. There are practically no changes, one can even note an increase in salaries in pharmaceuticals by 5-7% compared to March 2008. The salary of a regional manager is 75,000 - 120,000 rubles. gross – and here the salary level has increased by 10-15% compared to March 2008. At the same time, salaries in the Consumer&Healthcare segment are traditionally higher.

The requirements for candidates have increased, employers have become more picky and are looking for employees with specific work experience in one direction or another. Specialists who have experience in bringing drugs to the market and are able to work with large brands, large budgets and long terms of strategy are now in the price.

The problem of a shortage of professionals has remained, and this is true for almost all positions, of which the problem of a shortage of medical representatives is particularly acute.

Despite the crisis, there are companies in the pharmaceutical industry that are just entering the Russian market, which gives good employment opportunities, Morgan Hunt Selection experts are sure.
