George Washington almost became a zombie

The mad scientist was going to resurrect him using the blood of a lamb

InopressaWhen the first US President George Washington died in 1799, architect William Thornton decided to resurrect him for the sake of the country, The Daily Mail tells, referring to a publication on the io9 blog.

(This blog does not look serious at all, so decide for yourself whether to believe or not that this story is described in the quite serious book mentioned below. Perhaps this story is inspired by the portraits of as many as four American presidents in the form of zombies, placed on one of the pages of a certain PlemonStudios – VM.)

Thornton went down in history as the architect of the Capitol in the US capital, but, in addition, he had a medical degree and was interested in blood transfusion – an innovative idea for those times.

Washington's body was covered with ice during the preparation for the funeral. Thornton offered the widow a three - step plan: 1) defrost the body by the fireplace and rub it with blankets, 2) "insert bellows into the windpipe and pump air into the lungs," 3) make a transfusion of lamb's blood, which will inhale the "spark of life."

The information is borrowed from the book by Susan Lederer "Flesh and Blood: Organ Transplantation and Blood Transfusion in America of the twentieth century" ('Flesh and Blood: Organ Transplantation and Blood Transfusion in 20th Century America' by Susan E. Lederer).

As they write in the blog, the widow did not agree to Thornton's plan, but only because she reasoned otherwise: her husband deserved peace after a hard life.
