Secrets of proper aging

ROSNAUKA

The first International Conference "Biomedical Innovations for Active Longevity" will be held in St. Petersburg on April 25-28, 2016.

More than 300 major gerontologists and geneticists from several dozen countries of the world will discuss modern problems of genetics, longevity, and aging mechanisms. Among the invited speakers are professors from Harvard, Stanford, Cambridge, Oxford, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University and many other leading centers for the development of biomedicine.

The purpose of the conference is to identify the most promising technologies to combat aging and achieve longevity. The objectives of the conference were reflected in the names of the sections: "Epigenetic mechanisms of aging", "Genomics, metabolomics, proteomics of longevity", "Environment and aging", "Biomarkers of biological age", "Pharmacological interventions in aging", "Regeneration mechanisms", "Systems biology and bioinformatics in aging research".

The history of gerontology as a science has strong Russian roots. In May 2015, the 170th anniversary of the birth (and in 2016 – the 100th anniversary of the death) of Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov (1845-1916) was celebrated. In his book "Studies on Human Nature", he first introduced the term "gerontology", "geroprotector" into scientific use and laid the foundations of the biology of aging as a scientific discipline. He also owns the phrase "our old age is a disease that must be treated like any other."

The conference was organized by the Institute of Biology of KOMI NC Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Company "IVAO" and BC "Senator". More detailed information can be found on the conference website.
