The "plug" for bullet wounds received approval

Since April 2014, this device, capable of stopping severe bleeding in just 15 seconds, could only be used by military medics of the US Army.

XSTAT 30 is a kind of "syringe" with a piston filled with special medical sponges (see details here – VM). The device allows you to place one or more of these sponges, made in the form of a tablet, in the lumen of a bullet wound. Being saturated with blood, the sponges expand and reliably close the wound and stop bleeding. The duration of stopping bleeding is up to four hours.

Special contrast markers are placed in each sponge made of cellulose, which are clearly visible during X-ray examination. This allows you to detect and remove all the "plugs" from the wound. One XSTAT 30 contains 92 tablets. In general, the device allows you to gain time before the surgical operation. The device is manufactured by RevMedx.

According to the US Army Institute of Surgical Research, 30-40 percent of deaths of citizens who have received various kinds of injuries and injuries occur due to severe blood loss. Between 33 and 56 percent of these deaths occur even before the patient is brought to the hospital. Stopping bleeding is an important factor in the fight against the severe consequences of injuries, first of all, blood loss and shock.

In the United States, an average of 33 thousand people die from small arms every year. Of these, about 20 thousand deaths are suicides and almost 11 thousand are homicides. To stop bleeding, doctors can use different devices depending on the place of injury: hemostatic turnstiles, tourniquets, tampons with chitosan impregnation, disposable plastic clips.
