Yekaterinburg NPF Temp has launched the production of innovative titanium implants "Titanium Silk" for soft tissue plastics, including the anterior abdominal wall of the abdomen.

According to the press service of the Sverdlovsk Regional Entrepreneurship Development Fund, the project received financial support from the Innovation Center of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises of the Sverdlovsk region.

"Titanium Silk" is an endoprosthesis designed for soft tissue plastic and made of high purity titanium thread (alloy W 1.00). The endoprosthesis is characterized by high elasticity, which is provided by a special form of weaving threads.

The peculiarity of the material lies in its unique ability to overgrow tissue with the formation of a full-fledged connective tissue scar. An endoprosthesis is installed using a suture material also made of titanium – a thin polyfilament twisted thread.

In Russia, 200-250 thousand hernia surgeries are performed annually. Basically, these operations involve the use of mesh implants (mesh endoprostheses). But the synthetic implants used have a number of disadvantages associated with insufficient biocompatibility with the body.

In titanium silk, the use of ultra-thin titanium wire instead of synthetic materials will reduce the number of complications.

Until now, in world practice, there was no technical possibility of manufacturing titanium microwire as a raw material for the manufacture of mesh implants. The know-how will be used during surgery (hernioplasty) to strengthen the tissues of the anterior abdominal wall and prevent recurrence of hernias.
