Insulin from genetically modified plants
Currently, most of the insulin produced by pharmaceutical companies is produced by bacteria in fermenters. This is a rather expensive process, and SemBioSys Genetics hopes that the use of genetically modified plants will help to significantly reduce the cost of it.
